Your Visit - What to Expect
Here is some information, along with a few instructions, to help you prepare for your upcoming Sleep Study:
The Tech Valley Sleep Center is located on the 2nd floor of the professional building at 2125 River Road in Niskayuna. Please enter building through the main entrance. (Note: these doors are locked after 10:00pm for safety). Elevators will be on the left side of the main hallway. On the second floor, follow the signs to the sleep lab. Please ring the doorbell on the upper right side of the door. The technician will ask you to identify yourself, and once your name has been confirmed, buzz you in.
It is very important that you arrive promptly at your appointed time.
We encourage you to bring any items that help you sleep or provide you comfort, such as a favorite pillow, stuffed animal, book or blanket. If you take any medications, please bring them with you so you can take them at their scheduled time, unless you’ve been directed otherwise by your doctor or healthcare provider. We will also need a list of all your current medications including their dose and frequency.
You’ll find that our accommodations are much like a hotel and our staff are experts in making our guests feel at home.
Once you have arrived at the sleep lab, the staff will show you to your room so you can become familiar with your surroundings. Each room has a private bathroom and a flat screen TV with DVD player. Rooms are fully equipped with pillows, blankets and comforters but please feel free to bring your own if that makes you more comfortable.
The technician will place some wires and belts on your head, legs and chest area, which will collect the information that is needed for your study. You can then go to sleep, knowing that our experienced technicians will be recording accurate data throughout the night. In the morning, they will remove all the wires and belts and offer you a cup of hot coffee or tea and a light breakfast refreshment. The sleep lab has a shower if you wish to use it before leaving. Once all the data have been reviewed by our Board- Certified Sleep Physician he will review the results of the study with you.
