Weight Management
Physical activity and proper nutrition are key elements in maintaining a healthy weight. Increasing physical activity will increase metabolic rate, causing you to burn more calories at rest. Physical activity increases muscle (lean) mass. Muscle burns calories when the body is at rest; body fat does not.
Participating in more physical activity goes hand in hand with better nutrition. Increasing your level of exercise will increase your body's need for more nutrient dense food. So, it's important to stay away from processed or fast food and to make better overall food choices.
The good news is that physical activity can include anything from running, to hiking or swimming. Studies show that cardiovascular activities that involve some type of weight-bearing activites far outweigh any other in retention of lean mass and reduction of actual body fat.
Nutrition
This program focuses on sports nutrition, rather than general nutrition. Sports nutrition follows general nutritional guidelines, but specifically addresses the special needs of those involved in an exercise program. It's important to make allowances and to take into account how many calories you are burning while exercising so you are not deprived of necessary nutrient/calories leading to fatigue and "plateaus" in weight loss.
In the NICE program, we focus on working with you to provide healthy alternatives to traditional dieting. We encourage a change in lifestyle by regular exercise and healthy nutrition rather than short term dieting to quickly lose weight.
Clients who incorporate sports nutrition into their lifestyle see 90% success rate in years of weight loss as opposed to 17% seen in those who use regular dieting.
