Prostate cancer is the most common cancer found in men in the USA. About 218,890 new cases of prostate cancer were diagnosed in 2007. Prostate cancer related mortality is decreasing over the last 5 years and it is estimated that prostate cancer is now the 3rd leading cause of cancer-related deaths in men. Routine screening allows prostate cancer to be detected at an early stage where it’s highly curable.

Most men have a period of prostate growth in their mid- to late 40s. This is a common part of men’s aging and is called benign prostatic hyperplasia, or BPH. BPH is a non-cancerous enlargement of the prostate that obstructs the normal flow of urine.
